RFID Instructions

The countdown is on!

Salt Lake Comic Con will be using RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) wristbands in 2015. These wristbands will be individual and personalized to your FanX 2015 ticket. This means each FanX 2015 wristband contains a unique microchip that is unique to only your wristband. This will make your convention experience better, smoother, easier and more fun!

These microchips also ensure counterfeiters can’t make or sell fake FanX 2015 wristbands. Those caught with counterfeit wristbands will be asked to leave the convention immediately, so real fans can have an awesome experience.

Activate your FanX 2015 wristband:

Now that you have your FanX 2015 wristband, make sure to activate it online prior to the show so you can breeze past the registration lines and head right to the entrance line. Activating your wristband ahead of time keeps things moving so you spend your time having fun, and is required. Activate your wristband by visiting SaltLakeComicCon.com/RFID.

Don’t forget…

Your wristband is your entry into the event. Do not lose it because we can’t replace it for you. This ticket (wristband) is non-refundable and non-transferable.

How to use your FanX 2015 wristband:

It’s easy, but important. Make sure you tap your wristband every time you enter AND exit the building.

If you purchased a ticket to Salt Lake Comic Con FanX 2015 before January 12, 2015, you will receive your wristband in the mail. Once you get your FanX 2015 wristband, make sure to activate it online prior to the show so you can breeze past the registration lines and head right to the entrance line. Activating your wristband ahead of time is required and keeps things moving so you spend your time inside having fun.
  1. A small number of the wristbands (less than 1%)  were broken inspite of a padded mail envelope. If this has happened to you there are two things you can do:
    • If it is before Thursday the 22nd at 5pm you can contact our customer support to get your wristband replaced by mail.
    • You can bring your wristband to the event, have it scanned in and then replaced  with a new one. This will only take a 5-10 more seconds than if it wasn’t broken.
  2. If there was a wrong address or name contact our customer support and have them replace it. Regardless, bring your wristbands or QR code from your order at the event and you will quickly be processed.
  3.  If you didn’t get the right wristbands, contact customer support (we don’t know that this has happened yet).
Feel free to contact us for any other issues at our customer support page.

Thinking about FanX? Two words: Christopher Lloyd

Last year could be deemed an experiment, but it was an experiment that worked. With three successful events already under its belt, it’d be stupid of Dan Farr Productions not to offer another FanXperience.

Last year could be deemed an experiment, but it was an experiment that worked. With three successful events already under its belt, it’d be stupid of Dan Farr Productions not to offer another FanXperience.

As Farr, co-founder and show producer of Salt Lake Comic Con and Salt Lake Comic Con FanXperience, told me before last year’s event, “The fans wanted more, but also, really, we wanted more.”

I can personally attest to the “more” aspect of that quote.

Each event has definitely had more. More celebrities, more vendors, more space and more people. While this can pose an issue to the more claustrophobic among us, the fact is this is the biggest — and best — pop culture event offered in Utah.

So how can there be even more? Well, this year, FanX will be Jan. 29-31, 2015 – the tail end of the Sundance Film Festival (Jan 22 – Feb. 1, 2015), the other huge event that draws celebrities from around the globe to our mountainous neck of the woods.

If you haven’t had the chance to go to either of these events yet, maybe this year is the chance to do both.

This overlap has the potential to bring even more celebrities to the Salt Palace to interact with fans of pop culture.

“We have observed the excitement generated around the Sundance Film Festival but realized that the fans had little opportunity to interact on a personal level with the filmmakers and actors in town to promote their projects,” Farr states in a recent press release. “Although many of the planned celebrity guests for FanX may not currently have projects in the film festival, we expect in time that overlap will grow to where celebrities and filmmakers will include participating in FanX as part of their Sundance promotional agenda engaging in panels, photo ops and autograph signings.”

The 2015 FanXperience promises to bring the geeks in Salt Lake City something they’ve been looking forward to for a very long time: Carrie Fisher.

She’s the epitome of “Star Wars,” and her slave Leia outfit is probably the second most recognizable from the franchise, right behind Darth Vader, of course.

“Although it will be the middle of a Utah winter, we still expect we will see a lot of fans wearing Princess Leia costumes,” Farr is quoted in the press release.

Also on the docket is Tom Felton, otherwise known as Draco Malfoy from the “Harry Potter” films; and Morena Baccarin, best known for her work on “Firefly.”

Also just announced is Billie Piper, known to Whovians as Rose Tyler in “Doctor Who.” (I have a friend in Salt Lake City who’ll definitely be looking forward to this one.)

The list doesn’t stop there, either. We’ll have the chance to meet Brandon Routh (you might know him as Superman) and Ralph Macchio (you know — the Karate Kid.)

But I’m most looking forward to Christopher Lloyd. Although he’s best known for his work in the “Back to the Future” trilogy, I’m a personal fan of his work in “Interstate 60,” “The Addams Family,” “Anastasia” and “Who Framed Roger Rabbit?”

With the Sundance Film Festival and the Salt Lake Comic Con FanX, this will be the perfect time to visit Salt Lake City. But you’ll want to get your tickets sooner rather than later. In an attempt to alleviate some of the crowd issues experienced at the last Comic Con, ticket sales will be limited to 50,000.

I hope to see you there.
