My experience with zombies was during a 5k. To me, the scariest zombies are the running zombies. A zombie is a manifestation of our fear of the rotting death that awaits us all. When I think about them creeping slowly, with one leg broken and a jaw dangling off, I’m alright with that. When I think about them rushing towards me in a morbid torrent of gnashing bones and tendons, I’m scared. During the race, the gloomy rain couldn’t hide the hideous makeup worn by the zombies meant to chase us to death. I ran harder than I’d run in a long time.
In other words… it was fun!

I was walking through a misty park, the merry go round spinning making an eerie squeal noise. The thought of how it started in the first place got to me. I glance at it and and see a figure walking towards it. It wasn’t an ordinary walk though. Almost a shuffle. As if this person had a muscle cramp. The shuffling stops as it reaches out for the spinning toy, as it stops, i hear a low groan. One, not of pain, but how could i place it… It almost sounded like someone choking. Not on water, or coughing from food. Kind of like a forming solid. A coagulating liquid maybe. It looks at me and starts to move towards me. Faster and faster its pace hastens. Almost as if the leg cramp isn’t hurting anymore. Closer and closer it gets until the body starts to fall towards me. I catch the figure in my hands and help it up. I see blood dripping from its mouth and the eyes are glazed over. I lift the heavy body up without question and ask if they are okay. When suddenly, it lunges at my neck, i stumble back heavy body in toe as we both fall, i hit a rock and it punts air out of my chest. I breathe back in, only to smell a rotten smell. The teeth getting closer to my face, oddly, it being without breath. I feel nothing. It gets closer and closer……

My husband woke me up at about 0300 and whispered “Listen” at which point I heard a loud moaning at the side door to our house (just outside our bedroom). My first thought was “ah, crap, it’s started!” We got one of our guns, went upstairs to look out the front windows, and saw a man stumble out of our side yard. He was wearing a referee jersey and could barely walk. He moaned and stumbled over to the garage door and began pounding on it. As we watched he made his way to the side yard, fell over the fence, and got trapped in the backyard. He sat staring at the Apple tree for about 10 minutes before he made his way back toward the fence, fell back OVER the fence, and began pounding at the front door while moaning and groaning.
Finally the police arrived and my husband and I watched anxiously, hoping he wouldn’t bite them. He did not, and no Zombie Apocolyse began that night. The police said he was completely trashed (drugs and/or alcohol.) I’m still not sure if I was relieved or disappointed.

Took my 10 year old son last year. He couldn’t tell if he was just too excited or terrified! We waited about an hour outside to see if he would have the nerve to go again for the second round but it was just too real lol. But he’s 11 now 😉 so he’s got this. It’s pretty BA. ;Danielle
