( Stan Lee is starting to wind down his convention schedule, and fans who live in Utah will soon have their final chance to see him.

Lee will be a guest of Salt Lake’s Comic Con FanXperience this March, and it will be the final time he appears there, at least for the foreseeable future. Lee made his last visit to Canda in 2016 and will be making a few more dates in 2017 before taking a step back from constantly touring (via The Spectrum).

“We want him to live to be 130, and he probably will,” said FanX co-founder Bryan Brandenburg. “But even Stan Lee has to slow down when he’s approaching 95. … We’re honored he’s coming here for his last tour.”

Herald Extra: Marvel icon Stan Lee, ‘Weird Al,’ ‘Princess Bride’ actors among guests announced for Salt Lake Comic Con FanX

(Daily Herald) With Marvel films dominating the box office year after year, and characters such as Spider-Man and The Fantastic Four coming in on multiple big screen incarnations, it’s safe to say Salt Lake Comic Con’s founders are paying attention to what fans want when it comes to their conventions. Just check the guest list announced this week at a preliminary press conference for the upcoming Salt Lake Comic Con FanXperience if you need proof.

When it comes to Marvel Comics, there’s no one more iconic or acclaimed than the Marvel Universe’s founder himself, Stan Lee, who marked only the beginning of a pretty diverse guest lineup pegged for attendance at the March 17-18 convention.

Also scheduled to attend are previously announced guests John Rhys-Davies, Wallace Shawn and Michael Cudlitz, with the 11 a.m. press conference at the Utah State Capitol Rotunda announcing the addition of “Weird Al” Yankovic, Judge Reinhold, Chris Sarandon, Cary Elwes, Adrian Paul, Khary Payton and Tara Strong.

Though Lee’s reputation tends to speak for itself — the Comic Con alum is behind the creation of an entire comic book universe and is well-known for his popular cameo appearances in Marvel films — the rest of the guest lineup lends itself to a wide variety of other fandoms, including Utah favorite “The Princess Bride,” which according to Salt Lake Comic Con Show Producer and Co-Founder Dan Farr, is one of the highlights of the upcoming event.

Deseret News: Stan Lee returning to Salt Lake City for FanX

(Deseret News) SALT LAKE CITY — Fans costumed as Wolverine and Mystique were among the comic book and pop-culture enthusiasts who convened Wednesday at the state Capitol to learn the characters’ creator will be back in Utah’s capital city in March.

Stan Lee, the man behind many of Marvel’s most recognizable heroes, is expected to make his third and final appearance in Salt Lake City for FanX 2017.

Lee highlighted the list of celebrity guests for the March 17-19 convention, announced at a news conference by Dan Farr, Salt Lake Comic Con co-founder and show producer.

Last May, Lee announced that he had made his final appearance at New York Comic Con, and the 94-year-old has since been cutting back on his schedule of guest appearances.

“When we heard he was winding down his appearances, we knew we had to get him,” Farr said. “The biggest reward is to see the responses from the fans.”

Other confirmed guests include actors Cary Elwes, Wallace Shawn and Chris Sarandon, “The Princess Bride”; John Rhys-Davies, who portrayed Gimli in The Lord of the Rings films; Judge Reinhold, “Fast Times at Ridgemont High”; Adrian Paul, “Highlander”; Michael Cudlitz and Khary Payton, “The Walking Dead”; voice actor Tara Strong, “The Powerpuff Girls”; and musician “Weird Al” Yankovic.

Salt Lake Comic Con co-founder Bryan Brandenburg followed the guest announcements with details about the event.

Utah Business: Enthusiasm and Passion Drive Salt Lake Comic Con’s Spring Fan Xperience

(Utah Business)  Salt Lake City—In late October, Salt Lake Comic Con wasn’t planning on holding a spring Fan Xperience this year.
In early November, they changed their minds.

“Quite frankly, Team Salt Lake Comic Con didn’t want to wait until September,” said Bryan Brandenburg, Salt Lake Comic Con co-founder and chief marketing officer at a press conference Wednesday. “The stars came together—literally and figuratively—to put on this event.”

Fan Xperience 2017 will be held March 17 and 18 in the Salt Palace Convention Center.

The initial announcements that there would be no Fan Xperience—a springtime little sister to the Salt Lake Comic Con held annually in September—were based on an inability to reserve ideal dates at the convention center; the only dates available at one point coincided with a general conference of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Brandenburg said.

“We thought there might be too many people on the street,” he said.

Later on, however, two days in March became available. Brandenburg said they reserved the dates, but were unsure if they could organize the event in a shorter amount of time.
“There were a lot of logistics and we had to talk to the team and say, ‘We’re late in the game to put this on.’ But everyone really wanted to do it,” Brandenburg said.

What followed was a “whirlwind” of touring the country by Salt Lake Comic Con Founder and Show Producer Dan Farr, and contacting various actors, artists and agents to assemble a lineup of well-known and liked guests to the event.
“When you’re moving quickly to put something together, it’s great that we have the support we had, and everything just seemed to fall into place. We see that time and time again with these events,” Farr said. “It’s just kind of serendipity, that things fall together. I think it’s because there’s so many people with great passion around us who want to make this happen.”

The passion of Salt Lake Comic Con’s fans was also a factor, said Brandenburg, and in light of the devoted following that made the convention one of the most popular events of its kind in the country virtually overnight, organizers have put forth a special effort to cater to them with this event. Because the event is condensed to two days, rather than three, ticket prices have dropped accordingly—roughly 65 percent of the usual cost. In addition, “fan experiences” available at the event, which is typically billed as being more intimate and focused on the “fan experience” than the larger comic con, will include Hollywood-style sword training by Highlander star Adrian Paul.

SL Trib: Marvel-ous: Comics chief Stan Lee tops Salt Lake Comic Con FanX ’17 celebrity roster

Stan Lee is planning one last trip to Salt Lake City.

Lee, the longtime editor and publisher of Marvel Comics who helped create such characters as Spider-Man and the Hulk, will be appearing at Salt Lake Comic Con’s FanX in March, organizers announced Wednesday. Lee’s appearance at FanX, set for March 17 and 18 at the Salt Palace Convention Center, will be one of his last public events, said Salt Lake Comic Con co-founder Dan Farr. “We felt like it was really important to get him to come back again,” Farr said. Though Lee is 94, Farr added, “If you meet him, you know he’s going to live to be 130.”

Lee appeared at Salt Lake Comic Con in 2014 and told the cheering audience, “You people have the greatest comic con in the world.” Lee will lead a roster of FanX celebrities announced Wednesday by Farr and business partner Bryan Brandenburg at a news conference at the Utah Capitol, surrounded by cosplaying fans.

SALT LAKE CITY — Even in the last two years, Utahns have proven just how much they love Star Wars, setting single theater attendance records at Sandy’s Jordan Commons Megaplex.

Dan Farr, co-founder of Salt Lake Comic Con, said he was well aware of the phenomenon before the two recent movies. Farr booked Carrie Fisher for the Comic Con Fan Xperience in February of 2015.

“I think the reality hit me when I saw her at the event and we had gigantic lines at the photo shoot of people trying to get in with her,” Farr said.

Farr told FOX 13 they almost canceled Fisher’s panel discussion because so many people wanted to meet her and get her autograph, but he decided to stick with the schedule.
