Press Release: Dan Farr responds to April Fool’s Announcements

mr. t

From Show Producer Dan Farr:

We sure had a lot of fun yesterday on April 1, 2014. Salt Lake Comic Con and Dan Farr Productions would like to clear up some questions regarding the guest announcements made on our Facebook page yesterday. We had fun joking around in the spirit of April Fool’s Day, but after reading the numerous comments on Facebook, perhaps there is still some confusion with our fans. Sometimes in show business, the schedules of in-demand guests shift and big commitments have to be broken. And sometimes on April Fool’s day, you say things that are just not true. We got back comments like these:

Alex B. said: “I swear to Odin if this is a joke I will burn the whole state to ash with my rage.”

Honestly A. said: “If this is an April Fools, I want you to be hit by a bus ;)”

Brendan M. said:  “If this is an April Fools joke, I swear by my pretty little bonnet, I will end you.”

That said, we want to clear things up….

Richard Simmons and Paula Deen

…we regret to announce that Bacon will not be able to appear at Salt Lake Comic Con FanXperience. We know many fans were excited to meet Bacon and get autographs and Photo Ops, but this will no longer be possible. We apologize.

We would also like to add that the Paula Deen and Richard Simmons announcement was an April Fool’s Day gag. As much as we love Ms. Deen’s cooking and Mr. Simmons’ enthusiastic aerobics routines, we have not booked either of them as guests at Salt Lake Comic Con FanXperience.

Salt Lake Comic Con asked our Facebook friends what additional guest we should get for FanXperience and the answer was clear: Nathan Fillion. He was the #1 choice in our poll. Following the excitement from the fans yesterday, we felt we must make it clear: Nathan Fillion will be attending the Salt Lake Comic Con FanXperience as a Spotlight Guest. We are very excited this was not part of the April Fool’s Day tomfoolery!

Nathan is best known for playing Captain Malcolm Reynolds in Joss Whedon’s Firefly and Serenity, as well as writer Richard Castle in ABC’s hit series Castle. He has appeared in Slither, Internet-distributed films like Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog, television soap operas and sitcoms, and theater, and voice acted in the video games Halo 3, Halo 3: ODST and Halo: Reach as well as animated films Wonder Woman, Green Lantern: Emerald Knights, Justice League: Doom and Monsters University.

Hello, not sure if this is really the right place for this, but a week or two ago I won a Divergent gift pack and haven’t received it yet– is it still coming? Also, so STOKED about Karl Urban! still wish Norman was coming, but Karl is awesome!
    Thank you!

  2. Linda says:

Thank you for clearing this up! Even though I was thrilled about Richard Simmons, I suppose I can live with HolycrapitsCaptainMal! Fillion. Even though I will likely not see him in KidCon where I am volunteering, I hope my fellow Gentle Snowflakes will be able to catch a glimpse. Viva la Browncoats!!

  3. Collette says:

Really glad that Paula Dean and Richard Simmons was a joke. I’m sorry but they do not belong at comic con. This is a sacred place for geeks and nerds alike to enjoy and dork out. On the other hand, I am absolutely stoked to meet Nathan Fillion. I watch Castle every week and I’m a major Firefly geek!!!

  4. Ron says:

I just hope there will Pre-Registration like there was last year for SLCC 2013… With over 100k people expected for FanX, trying to get everyone registered on the Opening Day would be a madhouse, take many hours, and could ruin the “Experience” for all of us who have been eagerly awaiting this event!

  5. Vicki H says:

Wasn’t too thrilled with Richard Simmons. He just doesn’t got the ComicCon experience to me! Paula Deen would have been ok if she cooked for everyone!

  6. Chris says:

Glad that got cleared up. Paula Deen may be an amazing chef, but she doesn’t really belong at Comi-con

  7. John says:

Fine, I’ll bring my own Bacon! As for Richard Simmons… he and my Bacon wouldn’t get a long anyway. As for Nathan Fillion, you guys have restored all my faith in OUR comic con surpassing San Diego in greatness! Watch out Cali, Utah’s comin’!

  8. BEN says:

Norman Reedus is forgiven now that we have Nathan Fillion coming to town. It’s about time cause I need someone to transport my cargo to another planet I hear he is the man for the job. .. Besides, Too many weavers in these parts, aint safe round here.

  9. Maggie a says:

Whew… I was worried about having bacon and Paula Deen on the same menu. I mean…venue.

  10. Carl Russell says:

I love Castle. This is great news. He does fill the shoes and then some for the loss of Reedus.

  11. Sandra says:

Bacon cannot attend FanX because he will be bringing home the bacon and frying it up in a pan. Meanwhile try not to miss him too much as you enjoy your FanX experience.

  12. Salt Lake Comic Con says:

This year, you will be able to pre-register (Pick up your wristband) at a PC Laptops location on Monday – Wednesday, April 14 -16. This adds a level of convenience for folks outside the Salt Lake Valley who would like to pre-register but don’t want to drive down Wednesday just to get registered and drive back home. We will also be holding pre-registration again on Wednesday at the Salt Palace.
